Will the current site still be available?
Of course. Nothing changes. It’s just an update so that readers who are bothered by the ads have an option as well. Sixty and Me remains free and public for everyone.
Of course you don’t mention that there is a price involved. My late husband used Patreon for his games and after he passed, it was very difficult to get rid of it. They don’t want you to leave so finding out how to do that is difficult. Plus they auto renew, which I hate. There are lots of free sites for us older gals including AARP. I won’t be joining Patreon, which is costly and difficult to un-join.
Hi Lin, it’s not at all mandatory to join Patreon. We simply decided to create a plugin that removes the ads for those readers who asked us for it.
The website, in full, remains free to use, if you’re not bothered by the ads.
If I had not read Lin’s post I would not have known that Patreon charges to join. Why was this not explained in the article instead of writing a heading: ‘We’ve Heard You – Say Goodbye to Ads on Sixty and Me!’ I was so pleased until I heard that to change to Patreon costs. That is not strictly true, based on having to pay for a site that has no adverts.Angie

Yes, absolutely, Marlene. The site, in full, remains publicly available for free, with the ads. We are simply opening up an opportunity for those readers who don’t want to see the ads at all.
I’m disappointed that you are going this route. I will not be paying for Sixty and Me. Paying even $1 for info I can access elsewhere is silly. Ads can be annoying but for free content worth the hassle. Sorry you’ve sold out. No more Sixty and Me for this senior.

I suppose there is a misunderstanding. The website remains absolutely free, in its full version, for everyone, with the ads.
The ad-free experience is something many readers requested as an option, so we decided to open this up as well.
Basically, everyone now has a choice. You don’t mind the ads – no problem. You don’t want the ads – that’s fine, too.
It’s all about having a choice. :)

Yes, the current site remains as it has always been – free, public, with ads.
There is no new site, it’s just a plugin which connects the website with our Patreon so that we can at all offer an ad-free option to those who requested it.
The comments, the games, everything remains as, basically, the website hasn’t changed one bit. We haven’t created a separate paid site. It’s just a tiny addition that doesn’t interfere with anything.
