Is Salt Water Really the Cure for All Life’s Problems?

By Margaret Manning February 14, 2015 Mindset

For most of us, life after 60 is filled with opportunity, laughter and happiness. Unfortunately, it is also filled with its share of tragedy. Some of us will have to deal with the loss of our spouse. Others will watch their children going through difficult times. The majority of us will be touched by illness in some way.

The question is not whether we will encounter difficulties, but, how we will deal with them and get our lives back on track. Today, I’d love to have a conversation with all of you about how to deal with difficult times.

To kick things off, here is one of my favorite quotes of all time. Anne Marrow Lindbergh once said, “The cure for anything is salt water – sweat, tears and the sea.”

I love this quote – and in many ways, it connects directly to the way that I deal with stress. For starters, I’m a crier. For years, I wondered if there was something wrong with me. That’s how often I cried. Now, I just see my tears as a part of who I am – a delicate soul who cares deeply about the people around me.

Second, while I may not go to the beach every time disaster strikes, I do love to travel. There is something about getting away from my everyday existence that helps me to heal. Finally, I have always found that getting active helps to make any problem easier to deal with. Even a short walk can change the lens through which you view the world.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please answer the following questions in the comments section and “like” and share this article to keep the conversation going!

What do you do when you are feeling sad or something bad happens in your life? What do you think of Anne Marrow Lindbergh’s quote? What advice would you give to the women in the community who are going through difficult times now?
