How to Reflect on Your Dreams and Desires for 2024

By Joanie Marx December 16, 2023 Mindset

With the holiday season ramping up and a new year right around the corner, there is no better time than now to reflect on your dreams and desires.

Reflecting on dreams and desires is not only a timely exercise for women over 60, but it is also an essential part of creating the life you desire at any age.

What does this look or feel like? And what potential obstacles can get in the way of doing this during one of the busiest and most festive times of the year?

In this second blog of this six-part series on Living Your Dreamlife in 2024,” we will answer these questions as we explore some of the best ways to reflect on your dreams and desires in the coming year.

Overcome Unseen Obstacles

Reflecting on your dreams and desires is not wishful thinking. It’s about stacking the odds in your favor to experience more out of life on your terms.

As simple as this may appear on the surface, for many women this is not easy.

To help you settle into doing this and overcome distractions, especially during this time of year, here are some common obstacles women over 60 face when it comes to being, doing, and experiencing more of what they desire:

Societal Expectations & Stereotypes

Society often imposes unrealistic expectations and false stereotypes on women, particularly as they age. Because of this, there may be a perception that your dreams and desires are no longer relevant at this stage of life.

Self-Limiting Beliefs

From believing you might be too old or thinking it’s too late to start something new, limiting beliefs can hinder self-reflection and limit personal growth.

Prioritizing Other’s Desires Over Your Own

Many women over 60 have spent a lot of their lives prioritizing the needs of others over their own. If you can relate, this selflessness can make it challenging to shift your focus back to yourself.

Fear of Judgment or Criticism from Others

Unless your dreams and desires are more important than what other people think, this fear could be your #1 obstacle to openly reflecting on and pursuing what truly brings you joy and fulfillment.

Health & Physical Limitations

As we age, there may be certain health challenges or physical limitations that can impact our ability to pursue certain dreams. If this is true for you, these limitations can dampen enthusiasm or create a sense of discouragement that keeps you from reflecting on your desires.

Lack of Support or Encouragement

Many women over 60 often find themselves surrounded by people who are unsupportive. Don’t let the absence of outside encouragement get in the way of reflecting on your dreams and desires.

Financial Considerations

Financial constraints can pose challenges when you want to pursue your dreams and desires. Practical considerations, such as limited resources or financial responsibilities, may need to be addressed but should not be the reason you don’t take time to reflect on your aspirations.

In spite of these challenges, it is important to remember your dreams and desires are valid and deserving of exploration. Recognizing and addressing these obstacles can empower you to nurture your growth and find joy in pursuing your dreams.
