Let’s Celebrate the Wilder Women Among Us

By Margaret Manning May 02, 2015 Beauty

If you have been following Sixty and Me for a while, you are probably very aware that I consider the idea that women over 60 should “age gracefully” as being somewhat outdated. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with taking it easy – if that’s what you want – but, the idea that older women should be seen and not heard really annoys me.

In fact, some of the most interesting women that I know are the ones who live on the wild side. Sure, perhaps society doesn’t always get their unique style or way of looking at the world, but, who cares?

I’m reminded of a quote by Miuccie Prada, who said “Women always try to tame themselves as they get older but the ones who look best are often a bit wilder.” Yes, they certainly are!

Miuccie Prada - Women always try to tame themselves as they get older but the ones who look best are often a bit wilder.

So, today, I want to celebrate the wilder women among us. I want to say thank you to the crazy dressers, free spirits and unconventional thinkers that make our community great. The world would be a very boring place without you!

Do you consider yourself to be a bit on the wild side? Is there a special woman in your life who sees the world differently? What do you like most about her? Do you agree or disagree that the concept of “aging gracefully” is outdated? Please let us know in the comments.
