According to the latest statistics, more than 266,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2018. This means that, if it takes you four minutes to read this article, two more women in the U.S. will have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.
It’s a condition that impacts women from all walks of life, secretaries and celebrities, moms and mechanics. And, unfortunately for the women in our community, breast cancer impacts older women more than our younger counterparts.
This is why, despite the fact that I’m not a huge fan of celebrity-watching stories, I wanted to share the news that Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of the show Seinfeld, has finished chemo and is out-and-about, trying to get back to a more normal life.
I feel comfortable sharing this story due to the fact that Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been open about her cancer diagnosis and clearly wants to make a difference when it comes to breast cancer awareness.
In September, Julia announced her diagnosis on Twitter, saying: “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one. The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal healthcare a reality.”

Regardless of whether you agree with Julia that the U.S. should adopt a universal healthcare model, you have to admit that more could be done to help women who are suffering from breast cancer.
The good news is that Julia has been spotted out and about and her sons recently recorded a video celebrating her last day of chemo.

Julia’s friends continue to support her during her recovery. According to Entertainment Tonight, Jerry Seinfeld recently talked with Julia and said that she is in good spirits following her treatment.

Here are a few of our favorite breast cancer charities. I hope that you take a few minutes to check them out and become a part of the solution today.
Breast Cancer Research Foundation – An organization what wants to help cure breast cancer through ongoing research.
National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund – This group has set themselves a goal of defeating breast cancer by 2020.
Breast Cancer Prevention Partners – Unlike some organizations, which focus on finding a cure for breast cancer, this group focuses on identifying and communicating the causes.
Let all get involved. Together, we can defeat breast cancer!
