The Importance of Friends for Women Over 60 – Suzanne Braun Levine (Video)

By Margaret Manning October 20, 2013 Lifestyle

In this episode of the Sixty and Me show, I share a conversation with Suzanne Braun Levine, a woman who was a legend in the women’s movement and is now an inspiration to midlife women.

Suzanne is a best-selling writer, editor and nationally recognized authority on issues facing women over 50. She was the first editor of Ms. Magazine and her passion for the history and lives of women shines through in our conversation.

We discuss her recent book “You Gotta Have Girlfriends” and the emotional and physical importance ofhaving a trusted circle of women friends during the new stage of life she calls “Second Adulthood.”

Finding friends is important at any age, and this is especially true for women over 60. You will love her honest and sometimes irreverent talk about menopause, intimacy, dating and the mindset needed for reinvention in our 60’s.

In our interview, Suzanne reveals her favorite decade and discusses why she thinks women today are in the best position ever to shape new identities and shatter old stereotypes. She explains why we are not our mother’s generation and how access to a healthy and empowered life fuels our ability to change.

We also talk about finding love and intimacy in midlife and why dating younger men may be a great solution for many older women. Finally we discuss her passion for financial independence as older women and her work with Encore that supports initiatives for creative work alternatives. Enjoy the show!

What do you think of the interview? If you could ask Suzanne one question, what would it be? Please add your thoughts in the comments below.
