How are you planning on spending your 60th birthday? Will you mark this special occasion with friends and family? Will you go on a short trip? Or, will you perhaps do something more “adventurous,” like skydiving or swimming with sharks?
Turning 60 is a milestone, even if we don’t like to admit it. Even if we don’t worry about “getting old,” most of us have a sense that we may have fewer years in front of us than behind. We know, on some level, that the decisions that we make in our 60s are going to have a big impact on how we spend our later years.
So, how can you mark your 60th birthday with a bang? How can you show the world, and yourself, that you are dedicated to living with passion and verve? Maybe it’s time to take some inspiration from someone twice your age!
Georgina Harwood is not your typical 100-year-old. Not only is she in remarkably good health, but, she is also more adventurous than most people in their 60s – or 20s for that matter! Want proof? For her 100th birthday, Ms. Harwood decided to celebrate by skydiving one day and swimming with sharks a few days later.
Please take a couple of minutes to watch her story. Then, let’s return to the discussion of 60th birthdays.
I don’t know about you, but, I found watching this wonderful older lady celebrating her birthday in such an adventurous way so inspiring.
You don’t have to jump from a plane to show the world that aging stereotypes are a bunch of nonsense. But, maybe turning 60, just like turning 100, is an opportunity to recommit yourself to living on your own terms.
Is there something that you have always wanted to do, but, never had the chance? Is there something that intrigues you and scares you at the same time? Maybe now is the time to follow Georgina’s example and celebrate your birthday with an adventure.
Are you turning 60 this year? What do you plan on doing to mark the occasion? Have you already had your 60th birthday? How did you celebrate? Please join the conversation.
