As many women in the Sixty and Me community have experienced, ageism is still alive and kicking in America. This is true in the workplace and in almost every other aspect of our lives. So, today, I was so happy to read about a 54-year-old man who is proving that age is just a number.
One of the biggest myths about aging is that the older you get, the weaker you become. The truth is that staying in shape after 50 is a choice. There are 50-year-olds that look like 70-year-olds. There are also 70-year-olds who are in the best shape of their lives.
If you want proof that you can be in the best shape of your life in your 50s, you need look no further than 54-year-old Mark Jordan. Jordan recently shattered the world record for pull-ups, by completing 4,321 sets in 24-hours. He said that he set his sights on the record in order to raise money for HELP, the Hammonds Education Leadership Program.
In addition to raising money for HELP, Jordan told KRIS TV that he wanted to demonstrate that age shouldn’t be a barrier to accomplishment. He certainly did that!
Please take a minute to watch Mark in action. Then, join the conversation at the end of this article.
What I love about Jordan’s story is that it combines so many secrets to finding happiness after 50. Not only did he reject aging stereotypes and get in the best shape of his life, but, he did so while giving back to the world and inspiring others.
I may never be a professional body builder, but, I am committed to healthy aging. I hope that you will join me!
