It might seem strange to use a quote from Lady Gaga to explain how I feel about the Sixty and Me community, but, it is surprisingly fitting. She once said, “I think tolerance and acceptance and love is something that feeds every community.” Let me explain why I find this quote so powerful.
Sixty and Me is a diverse group. We have women from over 150 countries in our community. The women in our community are from every possible background and follow every possible religion.
Some of us are mothers and grandmothers. Others have been single our entire lives.
We are farmers and scientists, retired school teachers and artists. On the surface, nothing ties us together.
But, isn’t that the point? We are so diverse and yet we have decided to come together to support each other.
Every day, thousands of women visit Sixty and Me to participate in conversations or lend a kind word. We are tied together by acceptance and tolerance and love.
In my opinion, Sixty and Me, and communities like ours, thrive when people care. Conversely, if apathy ever sinks in, they are doomed. It is up to all of us to make Sixty and Me a community that we can be proud of.
So, let’s take the time to care. When we see someone else in the community who is struggling, let’s lend a helping hand.
Let’s participate in conversations together. Let’s raise our voice to the world and tell it that we will not be invisible. Let’s build a community based on acceptance and love.
Please let the community know what’s on your mind.
Do you agree that communities like ours need to be built on acceptance and love? What is the one thing that you appreciate most about Sixty and Me and the women in our group? Please add your comments below.
