Turning 60 is a scary experience for a lot of women. Unlike other birthdays, we are not worried about “getting old.” We are not concerned about a few more wrinkles or the fact that we have gained a few extra pounds. No, the issues that we face as we enter our 60s are deeper.
We worry about staying healthy after 60. We wonder how we will find a sense of purpose in our lives, now that our careers are winding down. Those of us who don’t plan on working forever, wonder how we are going to build a happy retirement.
This last question is one that comes up again and again in my conversations with the other women in our community. After all, retirement is a milestone. It is something to focus on as we think about how we are going to spend the rest of our lives.
Talking to the other women in the community, I have discovered that the three keys to happiness in retirement are financial security, friendship and purpose. But, what does this really mean? When we go beyond generalities, what can we do, in each of these areas, on a daily basis to find happiness in life after 60?
This is where all of you come in. I know that the collective wisdom of the women in the Sixty and Me community is immense. Those of you who have retired know better than anyone the realities of living on a pension. You have secrets for getting more from every dollar. More importantly, you are on a journey to find your purpose in life. Through this process, you have learned about the world around you, and your inner-world.
I would love to tap into your wisdom and help the other women in the community who want to maximize their chances of finding happiness in retirement. If you have already reached retirement, please take a few minutes to answer one or more of the following questions. Our community is stronger when we help each other!
