Do you ever stop to think about the contribution you have made to the world? Not all of us are worried about our “legacy,” but, most of us still think about how we will be remembered by our loved ones.
I would argue that our so called “accomplishments” are defined as much by our attitude to life as by the events themselves. We all get up every day and do the best we can. This, by itself, is an accomplishment. We can do great work on a specific project. Another accomplishment. Or we can deal with a tragedy and reinvent ourselves. This is one of the greatest accomplishments of all!
In my mind, the simple act of being positive is something to be proud of. An accomplishment can be as simple as finishing a tough assignment at work and as complicated as raising a child. Sometimes celebrating the small wins is just as important as recognizing the big victories.
I recently had to complete a questionnaire that asked me to describe what a friend would say were my accomplishments in life. They didn’t ask me what I thought. They asked me what a friend would say. My answer – other than mentioning that I had raised two amazingly special sons – was that I hoped I had accomplished being a good friend.
