Have you ever noticed how good and bad things in life move in cycles? The more out of shape you become, the less likely you are to go to the gym. The more TV you watch, the less you feel like getting out and exploring the world. The same is true for making friends as an adult in your 60s.
In reality, getting the most from life after 60 requires us to find ways to break the negative loops that we are stuck in.
As I mentioned in a previous article, when you tell someone that you are feeling a little bit lonely, they will often tell you to “join a dance class,” “try online dating,” or “start a new hobby.”
The problem with these suggestions, is that they put too much focus on meeting other people. A far better approach, from my perspective, is to focus on exploring your passions and the world around you. Along the way, you will meet people who share your interests, values and passions.
So, today, I want to introduce you to a site that I use all the time that can help you to get inspired to explore the world. Journeywoman is a website for women who have a passion for travel. It was created by the wonderful Evelyn Hannon, who I interviewed for the Sixty and Me Show. Just in case you missed our previous interview, here it is.
What I love most about Journeywoman is the depth and breadth of information that Evelyn has been able to create over the years. Thinking about taking a cruise? There’s a place for that. Wondering how to thrive as a solo woman traveler? Evelyn has you covered. Looking for packing tips from other women who have travelled the world from a backpack? There are plenty of stories to choose from.
As someone who has a genuine passion for travel – I just got back from a 3 week textiles tour in India – I can say that Journeywoman is an invaluable resource for women travelers. I hope that you will take a few minutes to check out the site and let us know what you think.
What trip most changed your life and why? What single piece of advice would you offer for the other women in our community who may be traveling solo for the first time? Please join the discussion.
