Martha, a retired teacher, who is now a hospital chaplain and United Methodist minister in Austin, Texas; Kaye, a retired financial analyst for the city of Portland, Oregon; and Judith, a former product manager for the telecom industry living in Andover, Massachusetts are among a group of 54 avid learners who will spend 22 days experiencing the adventure of a lifetime in Road Scholar’s first-ever Private Plane educational program.

While visiting eight countries, they’ll learn about iconic historic landmarks and cultures from extraordinary instructors with a wealth of unique insights, fascinating stories and little-known facts. Leading this exceptional experience in the air and on the ground will be John Harris, esteemed former Steward of Christ Church at the University of Oxford.

The Ultimate Private Travel Experience

This Private Plane learning experience has enrolled participants who range in age from 62 to 89 and hail from 15 states (and one from the UK). They will learn and travel in a stylish, customized 767 private jet, outfitted with 54 “lie-flat” business class seats and a comfortable lounge for socializing, a luxurious classroom in the sky unlike any they’ve encountered before.

In each locale, they will stay in four-and-five-star hotels. Many of the participants say they gravitated to the Private Plane program because it combines several special destinations into one incredible journey.

This experience is offered at a cost of $47,999, which is at the highest end of Road Scholar’s offerings, while still offering exceptional value.

It All Starts on October 8

Road Scholar, the nation’s largest not-for-profit educational travel organization for adults, recently announced the launch of this remarkable air-borne learning adventure, which will take off on October 8, 2019.

Martha’s Story

Martha currently lives in a Sun City development outside of Austin, Texas. Her mother and father were two of the first Road Scholar participants, and Martha and her mother traveled together with Road Scholar about 10 years ago before her mother passed away. Since then, Martha has attended more than 30 Road Scholar learning adventures; mostly as a solo traveler.

“My parents weren’t wealthy and neither am I,” Martha said. “But I’ve always been frugal and have saved money in order to travel. About a year ago, someone in my neighborhood took a private jet tour and I thought, if Road Scholar offered something similar, I’d love to enroll. And now they do!

I’m confident that Road Scholar will integrate learning and we’ll explore new cultures in a unique way. The benefit of this program, is that the leisurely pace will give the participants an opportunity to actually enjoy each of the locations and bypass the stress of the different airports, check-ins etc. And no jet lag!”
