The Indescribable Joy of Being a Grandmother

By Margaret Manning October 10, 2015 Family

I don’t know about you, but, I love being a grandmother. When I was raising my own children, it seemed like life was a flurry of activity. I was working full-time, always zipping back and forth from the office, trying to squeeze in as much time with my kids as possible. At the same time, while I was raising my kids, every question was a “first” and every problem had to be solved without context. I loved every second of it, but, the time also flew by in a blur.

Bring a grandmother is an entirely different experience. Now, with time and wisdom on my side, I am able to enjoy spending time with my grandkids without too much pressure. I’m reminded of a quote that I once heard “A grandmother is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.” That’s exactly how I feel.

A grandmother is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.

Every time I see my grandkids I am reminded of how far my family has come. I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to make a difference in my grandchildren’s lives – and I am grateful for the joy that they bring to my life. Do you feel the same?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please take a few minutes to join the conversation.

Do you find that your relationship with your grandkids is different than it was with your own kids at the same age? If so, how? What lessons did you learn while being a parent that you are now able to apply to being a grandparent? What advice would you give to the women in our community who are becoming grandparents for the first time?
