Telomeres are the structures made from DNA sequences that serve to protect the end of a chromosome. They are essential for cell division and get shorter over time until they are no longer able to divide, eventually leading to cell death and speeding up the aging process.
Since every organ and tissue in the body is made up of cells, telomeres are crucial to maintaining health and youthfulness. Think you are unable to lengthen your telomeres? Think again. You have more control over it than you think. Here’s how to do it.
Studies show that those who have longer telomere lengths spend more time exercising than those who don’t. Obesity, in particular, has been linked to reduced telomere length and is also a cause of other health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease. In order to maximize your telomere length, you can do the following:
A healthy diet is essential to have good health and nutrition. Not only does it have the ability to affect your telomere length, but it can also prevent and protect you from a variety of health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The Mediterranean diet, in particular, has been proven to promote health and longevity.
Eat:
Reduce:
Sleep is one of the most important functions of the body. It allows us to function optimally and helps to better the immune system. Those diagnosed with insomnia have been shown to have significantly shorter telomeres than those who achieved adequate amounts of sleep.
Sleep also allows your body to repair cells and eliminate toxins stored in the brain. In order to sleep better, you can try the following:
Stress is the number one killer for a reason. It increases the level of cortisol, the main stress hormone, as well as insulin and cellular oxidation. It is also known to cause significant health issues and shorten telomere length. The best way to reduce stress levels is to do the following:

Honestly the télé ère theory has the ring of truth. But there is easily more empirical and irrefutable evidence that the lifestyle this article recommends sis sound and unequivocal.
Eat more vegetables and fruits, reduce meat. Walking, at least 10,000 steps daily. Bedtime at 11.00pm and wake-up at 5.30am, Qigong as daily morning. Daily Supplements – Plants Omega 3, magnesium, silica, grapeseed oil, probiotics, vitamin A, C E
Great article. I’m a physician, and what usually we don’t realize is that we are a mammals. Yes! We are animals, we should eat, non procese food, drink water and live with the stress of surviving not job, taxes, traffic, etc.
Last year was published that Americans will live less than their parents. This because of modern living. Stress, processed food speed etc. So take the advice.
Keep a healthy, natural, mediteranian diet,, socializing, gratitud, laughter, hidrating with clear water, exercising, lifting weights, being positive will keep you younger, active and living better. Keeping normal weight, sleeping (when you charge batteries) Keep healthy!
THAT’S THE GOAL!!
Then when you look into people that have aged being younger that their age you see that oxidation is less and that allows
Telomers and cells to be “younger”.
Obiosly their is a genetic factor.
So, help your body and brain!
I love Sixty and me, because it’s positive and gives great ideas in every aspect of life to us that are over the hill and need to take a good advice.
Have a great day, week and live a life full of energy being positive and keep your body clean with low oxidation.
My girlfriend who ate a Mediterranean diet all her life had a plaque build-up removed from her carotid artery at age 50, then underwent open-heart surgery for cardiac issues a few years later & recently spent 2 months in ICU to treat respiratory failure.
Well! I feel like I’m moving in the right direction! I eat quite a few vegetables, love my salmon and eat wheat products. Still have ice cream! h2o is something that while at home, I can fill up. Working full time in a classroom, I don’t drink as much & need to improve.
