It’s Time to Rethink the Aging Process and Get More from Life (Video)

By Margaret Manning September 21, 2015 Mindset

Every day, we are bombarded by negative stereotypes about the aging process. In the movies and on TV, we are told that aging is something to be feared. Hollywood really does seem to think that aging is, at best, a necessary evil and, at worst, a punch-line.

Beyond the media, companies flash anti-aging messages at us from all directions. With so much negativity out there about the aging process, is it any wonder that many of us in our 60s and 70s feel a little apprehensive?

Well, have no fear! My guest on today’s episode of the Sixty and Me Show is here to help. John Tarnoff is an expert in helping baby boomers to reinvent themselves. He is a firm believer that life after 60 can be a positive experience, filled with purpose and passion.

In the interview, we discuss society’s obsession with youth and, more importantly, how we can respond. While we shouldn’t try to look younger, John says that there is nothing wrong with wanting to look our best. We should focus on being fit, dressing well and, most importantly, accepting ourselves.

Next, we discuss the myth that older people can’t start businesses. John explains that you are never too old to follow your passions. In fact, in many ways, your 60s are an ideal time to build a company around your passion. This is not just good for you. It may also help to change perceptions in society of what we older adults are capable of. Enjoy the show!

Do you agree that we need to fight back against aging stereotypes? Which myths about the aging process do you think are especially damaging? Why? Have you started a business in your 50s or 60s? How was your experience? Please join the conversation.
