Few actresses represent our generation more gracefully or powerfully than Helen Mirren. Not only is she fantastic on screen, but, she is also down-to-earth, intelligent and poised in person.
So, when the rumor – started by Claire Foy, who plays a young Queen Elizabeth II on the Netflix show, The Crown – started circulating that Helen Mirren might make an appearance, fans like myself were beyond excited.
After all, the series has been well received by critics and viewers alike and has an 8.7/10 imdb rating! Who wouldn’t want to see Helen Mirren play the Queen in the future?
In a word, no. Despite rumors to the contrary, Helen Mirren has made it clear that she has no intention to take on the role of an older Queen Elizabeth II on the show.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Helen addressed this question directly, saying, “No, I’m not. No, no. Done with that.”
Instead, Olivia Colman, aged 43, has been picked to play the Queen in the third and fourth series’ of the show. While we would have loved to see Helen Mirren taking on the role, we have to admit that the 3-time BAFTA and Golden Globe Award winner is an excellent choice!
The good news is that, while Helen will not be appearing in the Netflix show, The Crown, she is staying busy and we can expect to see a lot of her this year.
Specifically, she is scheduled to appear in “Berlin, I Love You,” part 3 of the “Cities of Love” series.
In Winchester, Helen will play the role of a troubled heiress who thinks that she is being haunted by the ghosts of the people killed by her family’s weapons.
Then, towards the end of 2018, Helen Mirren will star in the Disney film, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” along with another Sixty and Me favorite, Morgan Freeman.
One thing is for sure – 2018 is going to be a fantastic year for Helen Mirren and we can’t wait to check out her latest work. And, who knows, maybe she’ll change her mind and play the Queen in season 5 of The Crown. One can only wish!
Are you a Helen Mirren fan? Which or her films did you enjoy the most? Which of her 2018 movies are you most looking forward to seeing? Let’s have a chat!
