My Super Easy (Under $15) Summer Makeup for Older Women Tutorial (Featuring CYO)

By Sixty and Me April 20, 2019 Beauty

One of the most common myths that surround women over 60 is that makeup is no longer a part of our lives nor do we still have the desire to look as good as we feel.

This misconception is one that makes some women our age balk at the idea of visiting beauty and skin care stores. Do not let foolish ideas such as these keep you from doing what you want!

Makeup Is an Art Form

Putting on makeup is one of the few rituals that grant many women a peaceful few minutes to themselves. It can offer a woman a sense of accomplishment and empowerment when she sees how she is able to use her face as a canvas for art. Regardless of the changing trends in makeup, using colors and shadows on the face should accentuate one’s best features rather than conceal flaws.

Learn how to create a minimal summer look with only a few products that are multi-functional and very affordable. Enjoy the video!

Easy and Affordable

CYO, also known as Create, Color, Call It Your Own makeup, is a brand of makeup that encourages users to have fun with colors and textures by mixing and matching CYO products. It is versatile and gives the best bang for the buck. The best part is that CYO does not test its products on animals, and they use responsibly sourced palm oil.

All CYO makeup used for this guide was bought at a total of $15. I chose these three products for their multi-functionality. Each product has three different uses. Definitely handy for traveling and touch-ups while you’re on the go!

  • Triple Date. A 3-in-1 brow product that contains an eyebrow pencil, a clear brow gel, and a highlighter.
  • Take the Threeway. A 3-in-1 eye-defining pen that has an eyeliner, an eyeshadow, and a mascara.
  • Sweep Into Shape. A double-ended 3-in-1 stick that is used to create a flush and pop of color on both cheeks and lips and to create highlights on different parts of the face.

Makeup Tips for Women Over 60

There are different types and finishes of makeup. Creamy and liquid makeup works great for mature skin compared to powder types. Powder tends to settle on lines even on younger skin. Meanwhile, liquid and creamy makeup will fill the lines and sit on top of the skin.

Powdery and matte finishes tend to accentuate lines and wrinkles on dehydrated or aging skin. Satin and dewy finishes keep a face looking fresh and are most recommended for mature skin. Some base makeup will have fillers and silicon that blur imperfections to make the base look smooth and bouncy.

Blush placed a bit higher on the cheekbones will give the illusion of higher and lifted cheeks. It also helps to use highlighter to lift the parts of the face that sunlight will naturally hit. These places are the tip of the nose, the bone beneath and above the brows, and the highest points of the cheekbones.

Darker eyeliner makes for a dramatic look, but lining the entire eye will make it look smaller. Use it to a minimum and it can make your eyes pop. Brown eyeliner can keep the look fresh, while a white or neutral liner on the lower rim of the eyes will make you look wide awake.
