In this makeup tips for older women article and video, we will discuss simple makeup tips with a special focus on choosing the right lipstick color.
Here are our favourite 5 lipsticks:
As we were filming the video series, we saw time and time again that makeup colors look different on each of us. So, just for fun, we created this video to show you how the same lipstick looks completely different on our fabulous models.
In this video, we are all wearing a light coral color Armani Rouge D’Armani Sheer Lipstick. When you watch the video, you will see just how different it looks on each of us!
Ariane explains that there are two reasons for this. First, each woman’s skin has its own unique PH, and this can affect the way that colors look on our skin. Second, our lip color itself varies, from dark blue to coral. This means that there is no ONE right lipstick for ALL older women. Each one of us needs to find the right lipstick for her!
So, when you are choosing a lipstick you have to take into consideration your base lip color. If you have a blue lip base like Sylvia and me, consider a coral lipstick. It will turn pink.
If you have a coral base like Ariane and Annie, you may want to go for a blue-base lipstick. If, like Linda, you have a neutral lip base, go ahead and use any color you like! The best advice is to always try lipstick before you buy it.
When we choose a lipstick, we must also keep in mind that with age our lips tend to thin out and become dry. We also develop fine lines around the mouth that can make lipstick seep which in turn accentuates the lines – not something any of us wants.
Fortunately, some lipsticks are created to keep the color from bleeding outside of the lip area. Make-up artists agree that using matte and hydrating lipsticks is best as we get older.
Reminder: Don’t listen to people who tell you that you can’t wear red lipstick past 50. Slide on that bright ruby lipstick if that is what makes you feel alive, beautiful, and confident. Just make sure it’s moisturizing and has a velvety finish.
Here are some lipstick options that have been recommended for older women.
The Clinique pop lip color + primer is created to prep and moisturize your lips while adding a matte velvety finish. It will last all day without bleeding into those pesky fine lines. What else could a woman want? Knowing that your lips look fabulous at 4pm, just as they did at 10am, is just a sure winner.
Revlon has come up with this Ultra Matte Lipcolor which will not dry out and has stay-put power to get you through the day. It comes in several shades: from nude to bright red. Oh, and it definitely won’t break the bank at $9.99!
The velvety matte finish of the Nars lipstick pencil is a favorite for older women. It’s easy to apply, moisturizing, and has lasting power that will have you enjoying your day without worrying about the state of your lips.
Check out the long list of colors you can choose from. Why not get a shade for everyday use and a bolder one for date night?
The name of this L’oréal Paris offering says it all: a Luminous Hydrating Lipstick and Nourishing Serum combo that is perfect for mature lips. Thanks to the infusion with nourishing serum and vitamins this lipstick keeps your lips moisturized and protects the color from feathering.
Another great lip color to try is the Tarte Lippie Lingerie Matte Lip Tint. It’s a long-wearing and moisturizing lip tint that won’t feather. Also, this brand is vegan and animal friendly: no use of animal by-products and no animal testing. We love that!
For those of you with blue or darker based lip color – look for lighter colors or coral-tinted lipstick to counter the blue in your lips.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick, color Sexy Sienna – Coral
For those of you with coral-based lip color – go for darker or blue-based lip color.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick, color Walk of No Shame – Berry Rose
For those with neutral color lips – the sky is the limit for you and whatever color you choose will stay true to what is in the tube.
