The ‘80s gave us so many wonderful things that we can fondly reminisce about today – mix tapes, crimped hair, leg warmers, cult classic movies, and beloved family sitcoms like Who’s the Boss?, Growing Pains, and Family Ties.
But on Wednesday, Judith Light, star of ‘80s hit Who’s the Boss?, proved that not all things ‘80s should remain in the past when she was spotted visiting SiriusXM Studios sporting another beloved trend from the era – a power suit!
Some might say that everything in the ‘80s was bigger – bigger hair, bigger phones, and bigger fashion – but few things from this decade were bigger than the iconic women’s power suit.
At a time when women were entering the workforce more than ever, the power suit grew to exponential new heights of popularity, helping women boldly declare that they deserved to be part of the corporate world just as much as their male counterparts.
The evolution of the power suit from the early 1900’s has been said to mirror the plight of female empowerment and equality. And while the ever-changing fashion trend has seen numerous transformations, none are quite as memorable as the larger-than-life shoulder pads, daring colors, and more feminine cuts that the ‘80s brought about.
And while some might believe that these shoulder-pad-centric suits of the ‘80s have no place in today’s modern fashion, Judith Light proves that this trend is making a stylish comeback.
Judith Light, 69, rose to fame after starring in One Life to Live and winning two consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
But Light really became a household name after starring alongside Tony Danza in the long-running ABC sitcom Who’s the Boss?, where she played tough-as-nails businesswoman, Angela Bower, giving her plenty of on-screen power-suit wearing opportunities.
And when spotted out in New York City on Wednesday, Light proved that the popular ‘80s trend is alive and well as she stunned in a fitted, all-white power suit ensemble.
With ‘80s-inspired shoulder pads, a tailored blazer featuring delicately embroidered embellishments, and matching flared trousers, Light perfectly combined a blast-from-the-past trend with a modern twist.
She completed the look with white stilettos, modest jewelry, and natural makeup and hair, creating an effortlessly stylish and sophisticated ensemble that showed the world her keen fashion sense is as sharp as it’s ever been.
Since her Who’s the Boss? days, Light has stayed busy appearing on a variety of television series and made for TV movies, most recently starring in the critically acclaimed series Transparent, for which she received several award nominations.
And with her recent fashion successes, we think she is well-deserving of adding Best Dressed to that list of award nominations!
