Unless you are one of the lucky few who has a walking desk, chances are you are sitting down right now. “So what?” you may be thinking. If you are like most people, you probably have no idea that the amount of time that you spend sitting could be killing you.
According to this study, spending more than four hours a day in front of the TV could increase your chances of dying by as much as 50%. Global statistics show that, on average, we sit for 7.7 hours a day – and in some countries this number is significantly higher. Can you imagine what all of this sitting is doing to your body?
Since having the right information is the best place to start solving any problem, you may want to check out this sitting calculator. This tool will help you to evaluate just how much time you are spending on your rear end each day so that you can create a plan to get moving.
Personally, I find that setting a timer to go off once an hour is a simple and effective way to remind myself to move more. If you have a smartphone, you can use its built-in timer. If not, any old egg timer will do!
