At the same time, there are plenty of other hot drinks that are packed with nutritional goodness. One of my favourites is the humble hot lemon.

So why do many nutritionists suggest that a glass of warm lemon juice that is the real magic elixir for good health? Here are 4 reasons that fresh lemon juice is good for you:

For starters, drinking a glass of warm lemon juice, before you put anything else in your body, is claimed to protect you from many types of infections. This is due to its high level of vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system and helps us to fight colds.

Adding a spoon of honey provides an extra dose of antibacterial and liver enhancing properties. So you can satisfy your sweet tooth, fight disease, and help your digestion at the same time.

If you’re worried about your diet, you might be pleased to know that a hot lemon and water drink only has 25 calories. That’s just 13% of the 190 calories in a grande latte from Starbucks. In addition, lemons are high in pectin fibre, which helps fight hunger cravings.

Did I mention that lemons are a fantastic source of feel good nutrients like calcium, potassium, vitamin A, C, potassium and iron? As an added bonus, lemons are reported to help control blood pressure.

I, for one, am going to mix lemons into my morning ritual. I probably won’t stop drinking coffee altogether, but, who says coffee and lemons can’t be friends?
