How to Accessorize Your Way to a Uniquely Chic Style After 50 (Video and Pictures!)

By Sixty and Me August 17, 2019 Beauty

How do you accessorize your outfit to achieve an elegant style after 50? We have answers! Enjoy this video as Jess Jannenga, a fashion blogger from Elegantly Dressed and Stylish, dishes tips on looking elegant after 50 with brooches, handbags, and shoes.

Style After 50: Boost Your Look with Brooches

Jess loves accessorizing her outfits with vintage brooches, especially since each brooch comes with their own story.

Brooches can elevate the style of your outfit and show off your personality. They are versatile as well, since there are many ways to include them in an outfit. For example, you can wear them as a cluster on a jean jacket.

Besides pinning brooches to your outfits, you can attach them on handbags, purses, and hats as well.

Accessorising does not necessarily have to burn a hole in your pocket either. During the interview, Margaret showed how she incorporated a brooch on her black beret hat, creating a style that is uniquely hers and one-of-a-kind.

All in all, brooches are a great way to make your outfits look more elegant, personalized, and serves as a great conversation starter as well.

Give Your Look a Lift with Fabulous Handbags

Jess shares one of her favorite handbags to carry during the fall season – a plum-colored handbag that complements almost any outfit.

A bag doesn’t only add color to your outfit; it can also add texture as well. For example, you can incorporate leather or brocade handbags depending on the look you are going for.

Tread New Ground with New Shoes

Some women over 50 face physical limitations, particularly with regards to their feet. As a result, women with health conditions have to carefully consider their choice of footwear to ensure that it accommodates their needs. Comfort is definitely a key factor.

However, comfortable shoes are not necessarily frumpy. As Jess shares, you do not have to forego style for comfort when it comes to shoes. There is an increasing number of companies that cater to both style and comfort.

For example, Jambu block heels are a stylish option that give you height without hurting your feet. A good pair of shoes should make you look good AND feel good!

Besides combining comfort and style, Jess reminds us that it is also important to dress for the occasion. For example, a shopping trip may require different footwear from a sit-down dinner at a wine bar.

Bonus Tip: How to Get the Most from Your Other Clothes

Jess says to choose clothes of a comfortable material and ensure that they are not restrictive.

One of Jess’s favorite outfits – Karina dresses – are easy to wash and do not require ironing, making it easier to maintain and take on a vacation. They look great too!

Be it a handbag, a brooch or a pair of shoes, you can elegantly style your outfits in a variety of ways. Do not be afraid to inject your own personality in your outfit. And, most of all be creative and let your personality shine through!

Do you have a favorite pair of shoes? Do you like brooches? Or are you more of a handbag woman? What do you think are the keys to style after 50? Share your styling tips with us in the conversation!
