As expected, it’s already hot and humid here in sunny Florida, so I’m off to a head start on my summer wardrobe. I’ve been shopping up a storm and have prepared a bunch of looks that can be easily recreated with clothes you have in your wardrobe. So, let’s get started.

A Brand “New” 80s Look

The 1980s are back, and I bet you still have a few of those unstructured blazers hidden in the back of your closet.

For instance, here is the latest trend – a boxy blazer with a pair of shorts and a simple camisole top. I’ve styled my look with a pair of comfortable wedges, but sneakers or flats would work just as well.

Style for Business

Create a sophisticated work look by layering a stylish gilet over a pair of wide-leg pants, (yes, wide-leg pants are back, and boy am I glad!).

I decided to cinch it in with a vintage belt, but any wide belt will work. We are also seeing blazers belted with a thick belt to make that lovely ‘hourglass’ silhouette. It also looks great unbelted or open.

Try Those One-Pieces

Rompers and jumpsuits are super popular this year, and, depending on the cut, even ladies over the wonderful age of 60 can wear them.

I found this wonderful classic safari romper. If it’s too short for you, I’m glad to share that this same look comes full length. While a romper might not be everyone’s cup of tea, jumpsuits are a great summertime option as well.

Summer Is Shorts’ Season

Up your shorts game by choosing a cute halter style top, or a sleeveless button down. If you like your arms covered, go for a long-sleeved button down in soft linen and roll the sleeves to three-quarter length or throw a matching cardigan over your shoulders.

Don’t be afraid to create a chic look with shorts. Pull the look together with a cute flat sandal, wedge, or clean white sneakers.

Beautiful Colors

While I tend to prefer neutrals, color is our friend this season. Bold hues are completely on trend, including bright reds and bold corals. This maxi is in the season’s hottest color, Living Coral, and it truly lives up to its name.

Other trends to look for include toile and floral prints, tie dye, and bike shorts. Wedges and espadrilles are hot this season, as are sneakers worn with almost everything. Look for comfortable wide-leg pants instead of jeans.

Fun Accessories to Explore

When it comes to jewelry, there are tons of fun Lucite pieces to choose from. Tortuous is a great choice, as are delicate layered pendant necklaces.

Sunglasses are big and bold this year and are meant to give off the 1950s’ movie star vibe. It’s all about having fun, so try the various accessories available this season.

A Look That Counts

As for summer makeup, I’ve been playing with three fabulous palettes.

The first one is Charlotte Tilbury’s glow palette, which includes three eye shadows, two blushes, a bronzer, and a highlighter. It’s really easy to apply and I like experimenting with it.

I’ve also fallen in love with Smashbox’s CaliContour palette, which includes two contour colors, two highlighters, a blush, and a bronzer. The cool thing with this palette is that you can use the colors on your eyes to create a gorgeous glowing look.

Finally, Nars just came out with two limited addition palettes, a daytime glow and nighttime one. I bought the nighttime, and being the rule breaker that I am, I wear it in the day. It too is extremely versatile and can be used with imagination.

The nude and no-makeup looks continue trending this summer, though this year has also introduced bold clear reds and bright corals as well.

Pale or Tan?

When I posted a picture sporting my natural pale skin tone, my daughter suggested I use a self-tanner. I know many women don’t use self-tanners, and I haven’t used one in years, but figured I’d give Jergens a try and have been very happy with the results.
