If you were to ask a group of women what part of their body they like the most, many of us would say that we love our eyes. There is something about the eyes that we find fascinating. They are more than just colorful globes. They are windows into our soul. At least, that’s how many of us think about them.
Since so many of us love our eyes, perhaps it’s no surprise that many women say that they couldn’t live without their mascara. Personally, I never leave the house without mine. In fact, the only other item that I use more is my lipstick. What one or two makeup items would you be lost without?
Unfortunately, as we get a little older, it seems to get harder to find a mascara that we love. So, in frustration, we stick with what we have always used, even if a different product would help us to get the look that we want in our 60s and better.
To help investigate this issue, I turned to my good friend, Ariane Poole. In this short interview, she explains how to find and apply mascara after 60. She also provides several other eye makeup tips for older women. Enjoy the show!
Ariane starts by explaining that, as we get a little older, we need fuller eyelashes. As a result, many women will look best with a volumizing mascara. In the video, she gives plenty of examples.
But, what should you do once you find a mascara product that you adore? How can you apply your new mascara to get the look you want?
First, Ariane gives an example of one thing that you should NOT do if you want to get the most from your mascara. She warns against wiggling and pushing the wand of your mascara into the tube. Doing so pushes air into the mascara tube, drying it out. This can cause your mascara to clump up, making it messy and unattractive.
Here’s the process that she recommends…
First, gently take out your mascara wand. Remember that there is no need to pump it to load the mascara.
Next, scrape the tip against the tube so that the wand isn’t overloaded and wet.
Then, apply your mascara to your top lashes, starting with the tips and then going to the base of the lashes. While you are applying your mascara, look down towards your nose, not straight ahead.
Next, with the tip of the wand, push up the outer corners of your lashes.
After this, use a double-ended brush to separate any areas that may have become a little clumpy. At this stage, comb from the top and the bottom.
Finally, dab a little mascara on the bottom of the lashes.
As always, it’s tricky to describe a process like this in words, so, I highly encourage you to watch the video for a live demonstration from Ariane. She is a pleasure to watch.
Ariane explains that there are literally hundreds of mascara products on the market. As a result, you may want to experiment with different volumizing mascaras to find one that is perfect for you. That said, there are a few products that you should definitely check out.
The first product that you will almost certainly love is Ariane’s own heated eyelash curler. When we filmed our series of makeup for older women video tutorials, Ariane used this product on me and I absolutely loved it! So, don’t forget to visit Ariane’s website to find out more about her products.
In addition to Ariane’s mascara products, she says that you may want to check our Estee Lauder’s “Sumptuous Supreme” and Benefit’s “They’re Real.”
I hope that you enjoyed listening to Ariane’s eye makeup and mascara application tips for women like us. If you have any questions for Ariane, please add them in the comments section below. I am always looking for interesting topics for future interviews!
