Are you traveling solo? Are you looking for a travel tour that caters well to single women over 60? Far from being a time to slow down, this phase of a woman’s life beckons for exploration, discovery, and embracing the world like never before.
As the world becomes more inclusive and attuned to the unique needs of mature female travelers, an array of exciting travel tours awaits those who seek to embark on extraordinary adventures.
Gone are the days when solo female travel was seen as unconventional or daunting; today, it represents a powerful testament to independence, resilience, and the unwavering spirit of self-discovery. In this era of boundless opportunities, travel agencies and tour operators have crafted exceptional experiences tailored for single women over 60, catering to their desires for camaraderie, cultural enrichment, and the thrill of exploration.
A travel tour designed for single women over 60 should encompass specific features and considerations that cater to their unique needs, interests, and preferences.
Safety is a paramount concern for any traveler, but it holds particular significance for single women over 60. A suitable tour should prioritize secure accommodations, well-planned itineraries, and destinations with a reputation for being safe for tourists. The presence of knowledgeable tour guides and assistance during the trip can provide an extra layer of comfort.
The tour should offer activities that cater to a diverse range of physical abilities and energy levels. While some women may be enthusiastic about adventurous activities, others may prefer more relaxed experiences such as cultural tours, cooking classes, or spa retreats. A well-balanced itinerary that accommodates various interests is essential.
The tour should be welcoming to solo travelers and foster a sense of community among participants. Group dynamics play a crucial role in solo travel, so having a tour that encourages interaction, group bonding, and socialization can make the trip more enjoyable.
While group tours have a structured itinerary, it’s important to find one that allows for some degree of flexibility. This allows participants to take breaks when needed, explore personal interests independently, or opt out of activities that may not align with their preferences.
Many mature travelers seek meaningful connections with the destinations they visit. A tour that focuses on cultural immersion, local interactions, and authentic experiences can be deeply enriching for single women over 60.
Smaller tour groups tend to create a more intimate and cohesive atmosphere. They allow for more personalized attention from guides and a better chance to form genuine connections with fellow travelers.
Travel tours for this demographic should consider the accessibility of accommodations and transportation. This may include ground transportation with minimal walking distances, easily navigable accommodations, and the option for single rooms to provide personal space.
Having a dedicated tour leader or guide who understands the needs of mature travelers can make a significant difference. They should be knowledgeable, empathetic, and well-prepared to handle any unforeseen circumstances.
The tour should be considerate of health concerns and dietary requirements. It’s essential to have access to medical facilities when needed and to cater to specific dietary preferences or restrictions.
In essence, a travel tour suitable for single women over 60 should prioritize safety, comfort, cultural enrichment, and a sense of camaraderie, providing an opportunity to create cherished memories and forge new friendships while exploring the world with confidence and joy.
Preparing for a tour involves several essential steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

For most of our lives, our travel plans revolve around family and work. Disneyland and conferences are our final destinations. Now, in your 60s or better, it’s time to discover what YOU really love to do. So, select a themed group program and enjoy exploring your interests with like-minded people.
Group programs, like those organized by Road Scholar, are meticulously planned. This allows you to relax and focus on meeting new people and experiencing new places.
It’s surprising how many more adventures you tend to have in a group. There is something about a group dynamic that encourages you to take more risks and try new things for the first time.
When you participate in group travel, you have a built-in community to engage with. Of course, there will be people you do not click with. That’s ok. There will also be people who share your interests and make you smile.
At Road Scholar, for example, the local experts know all the secrets. This includes train times, where to catch buses, which local restaurants offer vegetarian meals, where the nearest ATMs are and much more! This saves time and reduces stress. On my trip to Prague, I couldn’t find a question that our local leader couldn’t answer.
Group leaders are well connected. They know their neighborhood and local language. They know exactly who the experts are and how to get things done. Whether you are looking for secret gardens or cheap train tickets, you want a local expert on your team.
Most groups bond quickly. This allows you to get out into the city with the protection of your new friends. For example, you can explore places at night that you might be nervous to visit as a solo traveler.
If, like me, you love solo traveling, it’s important to pick a group program that gives you a measure of independence. My advice is to pick a group tour that matches your personality and lifestyle. I had a great time on my Road Scholar journey and I encourage you to give them a try. No matter which company you go with, make sure that you look into their reputation and local expertise. There are a few bad apples out there, so, it pays to travel with someone you can trust.
Libby Dinkins Shields, a Sixty & Me Contributor and founder of World Travel for Singles, shares her reasons why traveling solo in a group is a good idea.
You may arrive solo, but you will lose that feeling very quickly. You, and everyone else in the group, will have no choice but to make the necessary introductions. It’s less intimidating this way too. Small groups end up bonding very quickly, especially since you’re visiting a place of common interest.
You will have others with whom to share your travel experiences. Someone to laugh with, to do things with, share stories, make memories – and to take that picture of you having a great time.
Loneliness can be hazardous to your health and is linked to increased cholesterol level, depression, and high blood pressure. You will not experience any feeling of loneliness in a group of solo travelers.
It is true, there is safety in numbers. Studies have shown that you are less of a target when traveling with a group rather than alone. Everyone looks out for one another in a group.
Group tours are already planned for you with a day-by-day itinerary. When you join a group, someone else handles all the logistics. Your group leader takes care of the details. You get to sit back, relax, and enjoy.
Free time will be included for you to do whatever you would like to do. And you can choose to have some alone activities or bring a friend you made in the group.
Expert guides will be at your disposal to answer all your questions about the history and culture of the places you will be visiting.
Traveling with a group is much more economical. With negotiated lower rates for hotel rooms, airfare, cruises, and discounted rates to events, they pass that savings on to you with a lower price than you would get if you were traveling alone.
Traveling with a group will avoid paying the dreaded single supplement. Solo travel companies can pair you with another same sex roommate so that you are not paying double for a hotel room or cruise cabin. Some cruises and tours will not have a single supplement for anyone.
Your new travel friends will give you courage to leave your comfort zone and try things you would never do alone.
So don’t wait until you feel comfortable with the idea of solo traveling with a group. Instead, get out of your comfort zone and join a group tour – it will enhance your travel experience and save you money.
Moreover, the friendships you will develop with people from all over the world and shared memories will be PRICELESS.
