Cher, 72, and Cyndi Lauper, 65, are two of the most revered music icons of our time, both garnering millions of fans worldwide thanks to their legendary contributions to the music culture.
But beyond the undeniable artistic talent that both women possess, they have also come to be known for their outrageous and innovative style choices over the years. And as they hit the red-carpet Sunday night for the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, these two iconic women fully lived up to their bold fashion reputations.
Cher was one of several talented individuals being honored at the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night, an event that “recognizes exceptional artists who have made enduring and indelible marks on our culture,” according to Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein.
Kennedy Center President, Deborah F. Rutter, further explained the significance of being honored at this annual event, saying, “This year’s slate of Honorees represents the pinnacle of our nation’s originality and the rich mosaic of diverse perspectives and art forms that has come to define who we are as a people.”
And as an honoree, Cher certainly dressed the part, wearing an artistic and original black ensemble. The icon looked eclectic and elegant in a floor-length, black gown with tulle and lace embellishments. She paired several black, leather belts with the gown to give it an edgier vibe and wore her hair in long, loose curls.
There to support her friend and fellow musical icon, Lauper hit the red-carpet looking sexy and stylish in form-fitting, black, lace pants, a black bustier, and a fashionable, lace-lined black blazer. Black stilettos and sky-high blonde curls completed the rock star chic look.
While both ladies always appear seemingly ageless in their beauty, Cher spoke about her tips and tricks for staying youthful and free of wrinkles on UK talk show, Lorraine, earlier this year, crediting her healthy diet and lifestyle, saying, “I’m working at it. And you know what? I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, and I don’t do drugs. I think that has something to do with it I really do.”
While healthy eating and smart lifestyle choices certainly play a role in maintaining her youthful glow, Cher also admitted to having a face lift many years ago, saying, “Yes, I have had a facelift, but who hasn’t? I have become the plastic surgery poster girl. Everyone says I am terrified of getting old but the truth is that in my job becoming old and becoming extinct are one and the same.”
And while we understand the fear, we hope that Cher knows that no matter how she looks, she will never become extinct as a musician and performer – she’s simply too iconic!
