Losing someone close to us is one of the most difficult things that we can ever go through. Unfortunately, it is also one of the few things that we are all guaranteed to experience at some point in our lives.
I have already said goodbye to both of my parents, so, I know firsthand the pain and confusion that comes when we lose someone special. I still think about them every day.
Of course, as with all things, eventually, time does its work and the sharp pain that we experience in the days after losing someone becomes more of a dull ache. When this happens, slowly but surely, we are able to start searching for ways to remember our love instead of forgetting our pain.
Today, I want to share a tribute that Celine Dion just posted for her dad, who passed away in 2003. My hope is that it reminds all of us to take time to remember the people we have lost.
On what would have been her father’s 95 birthday, were he still alive, Celine posted the following picture on Instagram. In it, she hugs her father, Adhemar Dion.
Along with the picture, Celine said, “Papa, you would have been 95 years old today. I think of you and I love you.”
Celine’s fans were quick to support her.
One said, “I thought of you a lot today because of your daddy. I’m sure your biggest fan is still watching you!”
Another added, “Our memories are eternal and allow our loved ones to never truly leave us.”
Celine’s message to her father is a powerful reminder that memories never die. Instead, they continue to connect us to the people we have lost. They can even allow our loved ones to continue to play a role in our lives and to influence our decisions after they have passed away.
There are so many ways to remember the people we have lost. Some people write letters to their loved ones. Others celebrate their birthdays or anniversaries. There is even a movement among some family’s to keep the Facebook pages of their relatives active after they pass away.
I’m curious what you think about this. Let’s share some ideas for how to keep our loved ones in our hearts and minds after they pass away.
Let’s also send Celine Dion our warm thoughts as she remembers her dad on what would have been his 95th birthday.
How do you remember the people you have lost? Do you send them letters? Talk to them in your mind? Celebrate their birthdays? Something else? Let’s have a chat!
