Happy Birthday Sir Mick Jagger – Time Is Definitely Still on Your Side

By Margaret Manning July 25, 2018 News

Mick Jagger is one of those celebrities we feel we know well. We have been exposed to his music, lifestyle and attitude all our lives. He is, however, one of the celebrity musicians I know very little about.

Time has certainly been on his side, since he appears ageless in this montage of his life in pictures. So, on his 75th birthday, let’s explore this mysterious man who most of us find intriguing, outrageously talented and, well, let’s use the one word even he would probably agree with – sexy!

Before the Rolling Stones

Mick was born in Dartford, England, and, surprisingly, he uses his real last name, Michael Philip Jagger. His dad was a teacher and his mom a hairdresser.

He’s been married and divorced twice, with ex-wives Jerry Hall and Bianca Perez Morena De Macias. He has 8 children, 4 with Jerry Hall and one with Bianca. Two others required paternity tests, and his eighth child, a baby boy, was born with his partner, 29-year-old Melanie Hamrick, when Mick was 73.

Some more random information includes the fact that his music career has spanned 50 years. He attended the London School of Economics and plays the harmonica, tambourine, guitar and piano. He was childhood friends with bandmate Keith Richards.

Boy Bands

Mick Jagger started his career with a band called Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. Keith Richards later joined the band and the Rolling Stones were born. In fact, in 1950, Richards and Jagger were school classmates, so it must have been destiny for them to perform together.

The 60s were a turbulent but highly successful time for Jagger and the Stones, though there was sadness and the loss of their former bandmate Brian Jones. Gimme Shelter, Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, we all know the hits by heart.

And in 1989, the Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Awards, Recognition and Sad Times

The Rolling Stones have been the subject of many documentaries. The most famous ones were Gimme Shelter, filmed during the Rolling Stones 1969 tour of the United States, and Sympathy for the Devil directed by Frenchman Jean-Luc Godard.

The Rolling Stones really were a contradiction. Mick Jagger was the most alternative, counter culture, wild child performer you could imagine. But, despite that, on December 12, 2003, he was knighted by Prince Charles for services to music.

His life has been filled with sad moments and joyful celebrations. In 2012, the Rolling Stones released their greatest hits compilation GRRR! But in 2014, fashion designer and Jagger’s long-time companion, L’Wren Scott, was found dead of an apparent suicide.

Gathering No Moss

The Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger are still performing. In fact, a new film follows their 2016 tour through Latin America, on the way to playing their first show in Havana, Cuba to more than 1 million fans.

YouTube is full of Rolling Stones music and videos. It’s hard to choose one that I love. As he celebrates his 75th birthday, it seems appropriate to share Time Is on My Side. With every transformation and life experience, time certainly has worked well for Mick Jagger.

No one moves like Mick, and I am pretty sure that he will be rocking with passion and attitude until he is 100 years. But for now, let’s wish him Happy 75th Birthday and give him thanks for his amazing energy, gutsy performances and passion for life!
