Today, I came across a quote by Dale Carnegie that reminded me of all of the fabulous women that have surprised me over the years. The quote was, “The expression a woman wears on her face is far more important than the clothes she wears on her back.”
Now, your first response to this is probably – duh, of course that’s the case! Why would you even bother mentioning this?
The reason is that this is an easy quote to believe and a much harder one to follow. Over the course of my life, I have been lucky enough to travel to many countries, but, I have a special passion for India.
On my trips, I have met so many amazing women. Despite the fact that I know that appearances don’t count for much, I always have to remind myself to suspend my initial impressions and look for the person beyond the clothes. The result has been that I have met wonderfully surprising women, who have changed my life in more ways than one.
I’d love to hear about some of the unexpected women that you have met – especially the ones that were from a different culture than your own. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
Is there anyone that you have met that surprised you based on your initial impression? Why did they surprise you? Do you think that it is easier said than done to ignore the clothes that someone is wearing and to give the person behind the smile a chance? Why or why not?
