Maybe I’m biased, but, it seems like the 1980s was an amazing decade for toys. When my kids were growing up, the electronics revolution was well underway and toys like Teddy Ruxpin, Transformers, Speak and Spell and Micro Machines were flying off the shelves.
Technology is still amazing today, but, it seems like my grandkids are more attracted to gadgets than toys. Has this been your experience too?
This week, my son told me that he had found his old Teddy Ruxpin in a box in his basement. My immediate thought was “Hold on to that one. It will probably be worth a lot of money in a few years!” I’m still waiting to hear whether he tried putting new batteries in it!
After I hung up the phone, I couldn’t help thinking about all of the wired and wonderful toys that my kids had when they were growing up. Teddy Ruxpin was definitely a favorite, but, so were my sons’ Masters of the Universe action figures.
Since many of us had children who grew up in the 1980s, I thought that it would be fun for us to take a trip down memory lane. Let’s start a conversation and share which 1980s toys our kids were absolutely in love with.
To kick things off, I’ve created a list of some of the 1980s toys that I remember. My kids definitely didn’t have all of these, but, I’m pretty sure that they had at least one friend who played with each. Which ones did your children love? If I missed any, please add them in the comments.
Which 1980s toys did your kids love? Are the kinds of toys that your kids enjoyed different from those that your grandkids play with? Please join the conversation.
