There has been a lot of talk lately about the increase in silver divorces among baby boomers. As our children leave the house and we start to look towards the coming decades, more of us are deciding to go it alone.
While divorce is a traumatic experience for both men and women, there is a bright side to silver divorce that is only now starting to shine in the numbers. More boomers are deciding to say “I do” for the second time.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 17% of Americans have been married two of more times. While the percentage of people who have been married more than once stayed about the same for most age groups, it increased significantly for women aged 50 and older and men aged 60 and older. In other words, more baby boomers than ever are choosing to get remarried.
There was a time, not so long ago, when it was virtually unthinkable that someone in their 50s or 60s would get remarried. Now it is becoming increasingly commonplace. While the increase in divorces among baby boomers is certainly nothing to celebrate, the fact that we are rejecting loneliness and continuing to believe in love is a positive sign.
So, I’m curious. If you found love after 60, would remarry or just live together? Join the conversation!
Have you remarried after 60? How did you meet your new partner? What advice would you give to the other single men and women in our community who may still be looking for love? Please join the conversation.
