Fall is such a wonderful time of the year for exploring makeup for older women. As the leaves start to fall, it’s time to break out your berry lipsticks and get out into the world. It’s also the time of the year to start preparing your skin for the long winter months ahead.

Fall Makeup for Older Women – This Season, it’s Time to Shine!

As a rule, women over 60 don’t like to follow trends. Every season we are bombarded with suggestions for new products that we mostly ignore. When it comes to fashion, ignoring trends is usually a good thing. After all, most “trends” are not designed with the older consumer in mind.

Beauty companies, however, are starting to pay a bit more attention to our age group. As a result, there are some early indications that makeup trends may actually be relevant for us once again. On a related note, I just have to say that I love the fact that Helen Mirren is a new “face” of L’Oreal at age 69!

To sort through the clutter and help you to decide which trends to follow, I sat down with my friend and professional makeup artist, Ariane Poole, for a quick chat.

You may remember Ariane from our makeup for older women video series. We discussed how women over 60 can choose the trends that work for them, while still maintaining their own individuality.

Ariane’s suggestion is to adopt a strategy of “adapting” trends to your own lifestyle and personality, rather than accepting them blindly.

Her mantra – embrace trends to look modern and upbeat, not to look younger!

To illustrate her point, Ariane discussed 4 makeup trends that women over 60 should be aware of this fall. These trends transcend age and won’t break the bank either!

The first trend that we discuss for this fall is the abundance of color. This year, lips will be shining in vibrant berry red. The good news is that this color also happens to look amazing on our lips as we get a little older.

On the topic of color, Ariane explains that colored eyeliners in purple, plum, and blue red will be popular this year. The third trend that we discuss is a new way to make your brows look fantastic.
